KBM Japan SA-501 Aneroid Sphygmomanometer

The KBM Japan SA-501 Aneroid Sphygmomanometer is a medical device designed for manual blood pressure measurement. It is primarily used to monitor systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels in patients.

Manual Monitoring (SA-501)

  • Highly accurate when used correctly.
  • No batteries or power needed – always ready to use.
  • Cost-effective compared to digital monitors.
  • Better sensitivity for professionals trained in auscultation.
  • Ideal for clinical training and long-term home use.

Primary Purpose

To measure arterial blood pressure manually using the auscultatory method (listening to Korotkoff sounds with a stethoscope), which provides accurate and reliable readings.

Uses

  • Healthcare Professionals: Doctors, nurses, paramedics.
  • Medical Students: For learning clinical blood pressure measurement.
  • Home Users: For self-monitoring, especially those with hypertension or hypotension.
  • Ideal For:

Works (Functionality)

The SA-501 combines three key tools into one system:

  1. Inflatable cuff: Wraps around the upper arm to restrict blood flow.
  2. Aneroid gauge (dial): Measures pressure in mmHg (millimeters of mercury).
  3. Integrated stethoscope: Detects Korotkoff sounds to determine systolic and diastolic pressure.

Step-by-Step Usage Purpose

  1. Preparation:
    • Sit in a relaxed position with your arm at heart level.
    • Wrap the cuff snugly around your bare upper arm.
  2. Inflation:
    • Use the rubber bulb to inflate the cuff.
    • Inflation temporarily stops blood flow in the brachial artery.
  3. Auscultation:
    • Place the stethoscope head (attached to the cuff) over the brachial artery.
    • Slowly release air using the valve on the bulb.
  4. Listening and Reading:
    • The first sound heard (Korotkoff sound) = Systolic pressure.
    • The last sound heard before silence = Diastolic pressure.
    • Read the values on the aneroid gauge.
  5. Deflation and Record:
    • Fully deflate the cuff and remove it.
    • Record the measurement (e.g., 120/80 mmHg).
